12 Mar

Bollywood is filled with numerous love stories portrayed over the decades. While some came and went, some lingered on for longer in the human memory. And finally, there are those which remained engraved for as long as one can remember. Here is a list of some of those legendary love stories that were told by Bollywood, in no particular order as such.

Mughal-e-Azam (1960) is probably one of the oldest love stories of Bollywood which is remembered even today. The Prithviraj Kapoor and Madhubala starrer enchanted many over the years since it was released. Based on a true event of the India of the 16th century, where a prince falls in love with a court dancer and revolts against his father, it speaks of immortal love and has remained immortal over the ages.

Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge

Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995) is a film by Aditya Chopra which if not spoken of while mentioning the best Bollywood love stories, the list remains incomplete. DDLJ, as the film is generally referred to, tells the story of the love story of a girl and a boy, both with Indian origin but born and brought up in Britain, meeting on a journey to Switzerland. As is the case with most of the Bollywood movies, the staunch father of the girl is completely against the marriage and takes his daughter back to India to fulfill some promise. The movie starring Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol apart from Amrish Puri and Farida Jalal has brought both smile and tears in the audiences’ eyes. Incidentally the movie still runs at Maratha Mandir in Mumbai and has set a record of the highest continuously running movie running for more than 900 weeks.

Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998) is all about love and friendship. The Karan Johar movie starring Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukherjee and Kajol has been one of the most popular movie ever since its release among the youths as well as the young adults, some of whom have already seen the movie umpteenth time and have probably already memorized most of its dialogues. The movie is in a flashback mode where the mother tells her daughter how two best friends got separated when a third love-interest came in between. The movie has its happy as well as sad moments and moments where it just touches the heart.

There are many more great romantic movies of Bollywood and the list will run through pages, but it’s best to watch them and deciding on the best ones for yourself.
